Fond Memories

So a few weeks ago, I asked my mom what her favorite memory was from when we were going through the cancer journey before. She answered all of the great people we spent time with. While I agreed with her that we had amazing people around, I named a very specific memory I had.

Later that week, I was sharing my news with someone very special to me and he sent a picture of my favorite memory. Sometimes life just makes you smile.

So you may be wondering, what is the memory? When I was diagnosed with cancer at age 5, an amazing man Dave McGillivray decided to raise money for the Jimmy Fund Clinic at the Dana Faber Cancer Institute by running, swimming, and biking around New England. He needed two children to be poster children to help raise money and I was chosen.

Mom and I got to participate in lots of events. Many times these were with regional athletes. One of my most favorite memories was being able to be on the 50-yard line of a New England Patriots vs. Houston Oilers game. We were escorted to the game in a sheriff's car, with the lights going for a minute - it was so loud! Then when we got there and were waiting for the second quarter to finish, I got to high five the Oilers going into the locker room. Then we went out on the field. It was awesome being on the field. This may have been the day that I discovered my love of football.

I got to see Dave at a conference a few years ago. He spoke at a conference I attended in Boston. Here are a few pictures from that day. It was the first time I had seen Dave since I was seven. Needless to say, it was a fantastic day!!!!

For tonight . . . I'm just sayin' XOXO
