She's Moved....Again!

I just completed what I think is my 30th move. Yes, 30! This move was very different in a number of ways. First, was my reason for moving. Historically, I moved for school or work. This time I moved because of my health. I made the decision to move closer to family because my health needs continue to increase and it makes the most sense to be closer to my mom who has taken on the majority of my help, which I am so grateful to have her in my life. Second, was my inability to manage the move and prep the house. This became the most significant for me because I had to acknowledge my limitations more than I have for the past year. While I have cognitively understood my life had changed, this move showed me that I am not be Super Tara. That being said, I had many opportunities to practice patience, gratitude, and self-care.

My mom came before the move to take my jewelry, pantry food, and medicine to my new house. Then my uncle came to help during the move and transport me and the cats to the new house. The move started off excellent. I found a good crew I hired to pack and move me. They showed up the first day, made significant progress, and were very respectful of my medical needs. But that was the best day. Tuesday, they ended up leaving early and had not finished packing. I was frustrated and irritated but felt they could handle finishing the pack and move. I hit the road so I could begin getting the cats accumulated as well as make my Internet install appointment, which I need for work.

The moving crew showed up in Tallahassee on Wednesday to wrap things up and then head towards me. I was wrong about their ability to get everything. On Thursday, the crew showed up and unloaded boxes. My plan was to put all of the boxes in the garage and furniture in the house. I completely underestimated the size of my garage and the number of boxes. Once the garage was full, boxes went in the living room, family room, and porch. Wonderful friends and my mom came to help move things around and begin to unpack.

After all was said and done, a 4'x8' trailer worth of stuff was left behind. I am thankful to wonderful friends in Tally who packed up a trailer and drove it to me.

By Sunday evening, all of my stuff finally arrived. Amazing friends and my mom continue to help me unpack, organize, and figure out the new house. I hate that I need so much help but am so thankful to have friends and family who are there for me.

The cats were extremely traumatized by this move. I knew it would not be easy for them but was heartbroken to find them hunkered down, scared:

Dame Marmalade seemed to handle the move the best and was often found cuddling with the other two. Princess Pancake at one point had buried herself in a pillowcase to hide. Sir Flapjack can often be found, when he can be found, behind a shower curtain. After a week and some quiet in the house, they are beginning to come around; although Sir Flapjack is more cuddly then he has been in the past year so that is a positive.

There are a ton of boxes to go but progress is being made. I am trying to go through things before everything gets packed so it will be a long time before I am completely unpacked but that is nothing new for me! Another difference in this move is that I have no idea how many boxes I ended up with so the box count will go the other way this time.

For tonight . . . I'm just sayin' XOXO
