For a long time, I have asked "How hard is it to do a job correctly?" While I understand that mistakes can be made from time to time and certainly do not expect perfection, we have entered a world where no one seems to care.
This past year has moved me into using delivery services. I had tried them prior but have never liked that the companies did not hire employees directly. That being said, with cancer and Covid, I needed to use delivery services because I did not feel comfortable being out in the world around other people. In the beginning, things were great. Then it started to decline. It didn't matter if it was curbside, drive thru, or delivery there more more and more mistakes. I have had missing items in my groceries or other people's groceries in my delivery. One time, it was about $30 worth of fruit for someone else.
This week I think I have finally hit the frustration wall. It started when a friend of mine tried to order groceries at 6:30 p.m. and couldn't have them delivered until the next morning. I tried to order groceries at 8:30 a.m. and my earliest delivery option was within five hours. I called and asked why there wasn't a option to have it delivered within two hours and I was told because they did not have enough drivers. I politely told the customer service rep that this would not be a problem if they hired drivers instead of using independent contractors.
Last night, I ordered dinner for mom and I. We were not super hungry but needed to eat. I placed the order right before 8 p.m. for a burger, a hot dog, and an order of fries. It was supposed to be here by 8:38 p.m.. At 8:14 p.m., my delivery driver showed up at the restaurant. I kept checking and the delivery time kept changing and the driver was "still waiting." I texted the delivery driver and heard nothing. I tried calling, it went to voicemail. At 9:15 p.m., I called the restaurant and they told me the order had been picked up at 8:30 p.m.. So, I called the delivery service customer service, they tried to get with the driver who was offline. While they did give me a refund (duh) and a future credit, I still didn't have dinner. I tried to re-order our dinner and the restaurant was no longer doing delivery for the evening. I tried another restaurant with similar food and same result. When trying a third restaurant, the delivery time was one hour. At this point, we decided to go ourselves. The first drive thru we went to was closed at 10 p.m. - it is if I am still living in a tiny little town. We ended up at McDonald's. For those who know me well, may remember I gave McD's up for Lent in 2013 and never brought it back. But due to the incompetence of my delivery driver who stole my dinner and companies who do not hire employees but exploit independent contractors, I was stuck. It took forever to get our food and the order was not correct but by 11 p.m. we were home and eating.
Most of my deliveries are less than 15 items. It should not take too much effort to double check the groceries are correct or for restaurants to ensure they have put all the items in the bag. Last week, I ordered my cheese sauce on the side, which apparently means do not deliver. As you all know, I can boycott with the best of them and this week will need to make decisions about what I am going to do moving forward.
Every company's solution is to just throw money at the problem by refunding me or giving me credits. I want my food not the money! If I wanted the money, would have not placed the order. My advice to everyone is check your orders and hold all of these places accountable! Rant over!!!
For tonight . . . I'm just sayin' XOXO
