Consultation Update

We just got back from Georgia and we are exhausted. Here is where we are at:

  • Jacksonville: There is a possible clinical trial. The doctor is still comfortable waiting for my Georgia consultation to finalize before we move forward with anything.
  • Boston: We talked to a doctor who works closely with the clinical trail team. There are two or three possible clinical trials that I might qualify for; however, none of them are available now. It would be three to six months before there might be openings.
  • Georgia: We met with the doctor on Tuesday. He wants to redo the genomic testing to see if the tumor has changed since treatment began. Depending on the results, he is interested in exploring target therapy or clinical trials. I did the blood work for the genomic testing and they are scheduling a new biopsy now.

We remain ever hopeful that one of the possibilities will be THE answer.

The trip to Georgia was over uneventful but in typical fashion, full of interesting stories. First, we drove up on Sunday afternoon and most of trip was very quiet. Until we merged onto 185 and came to a complete stop. There did not seem to be any reason except maybe people stopping to merge or to read the electronic sign. All of sudden, a car came flying by in the break down lane going at least 75 mph. He eventually got over but really?!?

We tried to get dinner but the drive thru seemed to be taking an order, preparing the food, cashing them out, and sending a person on their way before getting to the next person. With six cars in front of us and several behind us, we left. We drove to find somewhere else and nothing jumped out at us. When we got back to another place, their line was out of the parking lot so we just went and checked in. We ended up going out later that evening and getting food more successfully.

The next night we tried to find a place with outdoor seating and that took a lot of effort. In calling around to places to confirm their outdoor seating with open, I was told that right now it was closed. Of all times to shut down curbside service and outdoor seating, now is not it!

Our time at the new hospital was good. I am now in a wheelchair to get around. Mom did a great job navigating the chair in the narrow hallways and door frames. The new doctor was extremely late (two and a half hours) but once he got to me, we did really like him. I feel very blessed to have found good doctors who are very interested in saving me. This is much better than that local doctor many months ago. When the doctor said he would not make us wait that long next time, I let him know that we would hold him to that. Being so late made it a very long day by the time we returned home. It didn't help that curbside took an extra 45 minutes either.

The cats were happy to have us home and so were we. While the hotel was new and clean, the people staying above us were early risers and did nothing to be light on their feet. Where are the ballerinas when you need them?

For tonight . . . I'm just sayin' XOXO

  1. Tara, Thanks for the update and posting. We are encouraged my your contact information from the doctors and the prospect of getting into one of the trials. The trials and tribulations of finding food, and navigating the big city was entertaining! (But I am sure it was frustrating).. Hugs and K's! We Love you, The "B's!
