For the past few years, I have had a number of medical issues that I have been battling. In trying to figure out why I have been coughing, wheezing, and experiencing a shortness of breath for almost a year, a radiologist spotted something in the upper abdomen on a lung CT. Thank goodness for good eyes. So it begin, the mystery adventure of what I was growing. I was hoping it was going to be pearls, like an oyster but not so much. Two biopsies later, I found out on April 22 at 3:27 PM that I had a malignant growth identified as mesothelioma. I was not expecting that answer but so it goes and I was onto a new adventure in my life.
On the 37th anniversary of my last chemo treatment (May 5), I met with an oncologist who talked about the new cancer, more specifically peritoneal mesothelioma. An advanced, rare form of a rare cancer, which is so typical Tara. That afternoon, I met with an oncologist surgeon. Between the two of the doctors they laid out a plan. After a second opinion, I decided to stay at Mayo in Jax.
It is going to be quite a fight but for all of you who know me, you know that I am always up to a good fight. So on Wednesday, Mom and I headed to Jacksonville with an old friend Sydney:
My Mom and Uncle Mike made me a special gift. A customized puke bucket, just in case:
The morning was filled with appointments but then it began. Channeling my inner Wonder Woman and strength from my family and friends, Mom and I started this journey again.
Chemo was about two and half hours. We passed the time chatting, texting, and playing on my Switch.
We survived the first treatment and headed home:
So far, I am feeling good. Very tired but no nausea (thank you meds)! That is a vast improvement from last time.
For today. . . I'm just sayin' XOXO
