I headed to Jax on Wednesday for blood work, COVID test number 12 (I thought it was 11 until I looked at my blog today), and a CT scan. As I was waiting for the CT scan, I looked at my blood results. My hemoglobin was very low so I contacted my doctor, who agreed that I was going to need a transfusion.
After the CT scan, we checked into the hotel. Our remote did not work. The guy came to fix it by bringing a bunch of remotes that did not work. He left and came back with a remote that did work. Problem #1 fixed! Then we were finishing eating dinner and I looked on the nightstand and saw a little bug. I took care of it and then some of his friends appeared. I called the desk and told the we needed a new room. He was mortified and said that some of the guests stay for a month and have a lot of food in the rooms and they have to take care of these problems when they leave. We stay here enough to know that this is not the norm, it is a very clean hotel. Just a bad night. We changed rooms, which was very challenging for me because my breathing is very labored when I walk. I finally made it to our new room. It was the room that we stayed in a few times before, including for my brother's wedding. I feel asleep early. In the middle of the night, I felt something brush my arm. When I opened my eyes, no one was there. I thought maybe the room has ghosts. Turns out in the morning, when I asked my mom, she said it was her. We got a good laugh about this.
We met with the fellow and the doctor at 8:00 AM. Unfortunately, the news is not good. The cancer is growing more on my heart and lungs. The chemo has stopped working. He thinks that my extreme fatigue and labored breathing is due to my anemia, which is being brought on by chemo toxicity. He said he wanted to do a transfusion and then next week we would see how my body was doing. He also said that he was going to give me a few weeks off in hopes of helping me get stronger. Then the next steps will most likely be immunotherapy. He will not make a decision until I am stronger.
Today, I had my blood transfusion - two units five hours.
For tonight . . . I'm just sayin' XOXO
