Improvements

Great news at the Vet's today.

December 31, 2006

While this condition is irreversible,  treatment can help him be more comfortable.  The new food that he is on has helped him go from 6 lbs 11 oz to 7 lbs 4 oz - YEAH!!!!  Also, the BUN* levels, which should be between 15 and 30 were at 71 on Friday and at 46.6 today - this means that the fluid is helping to flush out the bad toxins.

He definitely has learned that the Vet's office means needles because he did not want to get out of his carrier - silly kitty!

On another positive note, I have to give a shout out to the Department of Transportation for taking care of a dead deer outside of my fence.  The woman on the phone told me she would have it taken care of immediately, and she did!

For tonight . . . I'm just sayin' XOXO

*BLOOD UREA NITROGEN (BUN) - This is a protein metabolyte excreted by the kidney (it is one of the toxins we are concerned about). In a normal animal, the BUN is 25 or so.  A good goal for BUN in kidney failure is 60-80. Often at the time of diagnosis, BUN is well over 150, 200, or even 300.
